Yo Sinead, its not that hard. If you come here, you will see artworks of people. I think its default that if you have no acocunt activated that you will see artworks that are popular on DA and if your are signed you will see the newest art. On the startpage you can easliy switch these things.
You can browse art, just the intern search engine. Like DA-art-google.
If you click on your name in the upper corner, you get on your page. if you click on names of others, or there icons, or there artworks you get to these certain pages. Name and icon to there main page and the artwork to their artwork page.
Every new artwork you upload makes an own page, where you acn add descriptions and everything and people can comment.
On my page you can make something wise and "watch" me. Button to find in the corner.
In the le corner directly under the Deviantartlogo it your name, there you can et allways o nyour page and besides this is a little sign. Click on it and options will pop up. You acn add artworks (here called "deviations") under -submit deviation-. The print thing beneath it is for selling your stuff here.
In this menu you should also check out "edit profile" or how is called, for your acount, where you can add icons and al that stuff (icon has to have certain dimensions ^^ Annoying, I help you then) and update journal for a big text area that you can use as you wish on your main page.
Thats enough for now.
